PETER
STUART KOHMAN has been a professional musician since the mid-'70s, starting off as a rock bass
player. As such, he toured Europe with some of NYC's leading classic "60's" style bands. Shortly thereafter,
Peter became hopelessly addicted to collecting vintage musical instruments and vernacular music
recordings, especially from the 1920s and '30s. To further his research, Peter began collecting
period "jobber" catalogs from American instrument manufacturers, antique photographs of everyday American
musicians and their instruments, and other rare ephemera.
Today, Peter is recognized as one of the leading authorities on American manufactured fretted string instruments, made between 1880 and 1980. He's a regular contributor to Guitar World Acoustic and other trade publications. As an associate in New York String Service's RETROFRET, Peter has the ultimate "day gig" dealing in antique and vintage guitars, banjos, mandolins, ukuleles and more.
In addition to Sufferin Succotash, Peter has also performed other local old-time string bands such as The Wahoo String Band and The Mudd Brothers. He's a member of The Lucky Dogs, a new early blues/ Southern roots music band with Bob Guida, Pat Conte, Steve Uhrik, Trip Henderson and Shlomo Pestcoe.
