SUFFERIN' SUCCOTASH

PETER FORD has been dubbed "The Ace of the Single-String Bass." He plays traditional jazz, early blues and old-time country string band music from the 20's and 30's with several groups throughout New York City including The Second Fiddles, one of the Big Apple's foremost early blues 'n' hokum ensembles, and the trad New Orleans jazz band Baby Soda.

Peter sings and plays the guitar as well as the Box Bass, his own innovation on the washtub bass. With the Box Bass, he has successfully redesigned the classic single-string bass to improve its tone and range succeeds, thereby elevating the instrument to unexpected heights.

A long time student of West African music, Peter also plays the gyil, the xylophone of the Lobi people of Ghana. He has appeared at Merkin Concert Hall and Wesleyan University’s Crowell Concert hall as well as a host of downtown music venues such as the Knitting Factory and CBGB's in New York City.
